    Introduction To Bioinformatics Workshop 2017

    Workshop Purpose

This 3-days training workshop has two main goals. The first goal is to introduce scientists of Lebanon to Bioinformatics, teach them how to use Bioinformatics tools to process and retrieve biological data, and to advance their research skills. Check out the detailed workshop program here.

The second goal is to build a community of Bioinformaticians in Lebanon, support them through their research career and introduce them to international  opportunities in the industrial and academic sectors.

The workshop will be presented by Dr. Layal Yasin, a bioinformatician and founder of Bioinformatics Experts.

    Exciting Skills You Will Gain

    Browse Genomes

Use the computer to search and retrieve genome of your interest from online public databases. Navigate to a specific chromosome and inspect the available known genes and their product proteins in addition to tens of other features. All of this is performed in an interactive way using your laptop.

    Compare Genomic Sequences

This workshop will introduce you to the needed tools to compare genomic sequences from different creatures and infer evolutionary relationships between the compared sequences.

    Computer Skills

You will learn how to use your own computer to use Bioinformatics tools such as BLAST, Clustal Omega. Moreover, you will learn how to access some of the biggest online public repositories for biological data such as PFAM, PROSITE and NCBI.

    Target Audience

Researchers and students in the biology and medical domain and related fields.

    Available seats: 30

    Attendees are expected to:

    • Have knowledge in molecular biology.
    • Bring their Windows, Linux or mac laptop.
    • Have minimum knowledge in using the Laptop (opening browsers, navigating to specific URLs, searching google, creating/saving text files).
